In the midst of ice
and snows,
The New Year comes,
the old one goes,
It passes in the dark
of night,
With hats and horns
and flash of light.
But more than just a
passing date,
It brings with it a
whole new slate
To write upon with
each new day.
A chance to change,
amend the way
That we have lived
the year gone by,
A chance to change
and give a try
To things we haven’t
done before,
To live our lives
without the score
Of promises we didn’t
keep,
Of dreams that we
allow to sleep
Untouched, untried, a
hint of fear
That if we reach we
might not clear
The bar that we have
put so high,
Yet if we do, at
least we try
To make amends with
old remorse,
And then begin a
different course,
A course that might
relieve our pain,
And make it possible
to gain
A new perspective,
view of life,
And maybe give away
the strife
That keeps us down,
afraid to live,
Afraid to love,
afraid to give,
Afraid to hear the
master’s voice,
Afraid of choosing
the wrong choice,
And yet because the
year is new
We gain some strength
from our review
Of all that old that
we release,
And find that we can
know God’s…
Peace,
Alex
