Pavements shimmer in the heat,
Tar is gooey on the street,
Dogs are lying ‘neath the trees,
It’s so hot there ain’t no bees!
Cicadas’ drone doth fill the air.
Seeking shade that we can share
With all who suffer in the heat,
Not the time to have bare feet.
Even though the rain did fall,
Summer heat out lasts it all.
Hard to find the motivation,
Wishing we were on vacation,
Thinking of much cooler spot,
Knowing that we’ll have the hot
As months of summer slowly pass,
Doldrums for each lad and lass.
Yet the summer’s time to grow,
Crops emerge from ground below
To promise food for winter time,
When we have a change in clime.
But for now the wind will blow,
Bringing furnace air to show
That summer sun is in control
And with its ray, will take its toll
Of those who fail to know its power,
Fail to find rest ‘neath a bower.
Better to let work to cease,
And just enjoy the summer’s …
Peace,
Alex
