Voter in New Hampshire are looking at '08

Wondering if what they do will signify that great

Things are in the offering for the year that lies ahead

Or will their vote be nullified by worrying and dread.

'Tis time to pick some people to run a race begun

by voters in the Corn State, that land beneath the sun,

and soon so many others will be chiming in their thoughts

deciding who and what and why, the needs, the hopes, the oughts.

It's part of being citizens of a nation that believes

That when the people make their choice,

The winner then receives

The power to be president of a land that wants to be

The home of hope and goodness, of peace and liberty.

An awesome task before them, one wonders why they seek

To take upon themselves the role to guide the strong and weak?

To lead the world in freedom, to watch over world affairs,

To deal with hostile forces, the publics' intense stares.

I don't think I would bother to spend a lot of time,

To have to deal with criticism, the mudslinging and the slime,

To gain the peoples' heartbeat, their vote and loyal stance,

And leave it to election day to see if there's a chance

To be the free world's leader, the headaches and the pain,

To see if four years in that post results in loss or gain.

I'm glad that there are people who are willing to apply,

To take the time to run the race, so willingly to try,

To serve this nation faithfully, to give it all their best,

And put aside their family's life, to put it to the test.

For now, I'm really praying that God helps us choose the one,

Who just might be the president, in a world under the gun.

Until November's coming, when all the noise will cease,

I'll pray for all the runners, that they might covet

                                            Peace,
                                                 Alex
